Burano and Torcello are two islands about a 30 minute boat ride from Venice. They are part of the City of Venice.

Even though Burano is part of Venice, it’s another world: wide open streets, cute colorful houses, and a leaning tower. Three thousand people live there; they are fishermen and lace makers.

Torcello was the first of all the Venetian islands to be populated. It once had a population bigger than Venice (about 10,000). Today there are 22 permanent residents, 3 or 4 garden restaurants, and the oldest church in Venice.
